Alleged prison escapee sent on remand

Abu Bakarr Jalloh was sent to the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown, after he made his first appearance before Magistrate Bonnie at the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 on Pademba Road in Freetown, on the allegation that he escaped from police custody, on Tuesday 12 May 2020. Police allege on Tuesday 12th May 2020, at the Lumley Police Station in Freetown, Jalloh left the cell at the Police Station and escaped from custody and was found loitering with no reason on Vincent Drive. Jalloh was charged with malicious damage, escape from police cell, contrary to Section 22 cap 179 of the laws of Sierra Leone, and loitering. Jalloh was not represented by a lawyer and plead guilty of malicious damage and loitering, but stated that he was not guilty of escaping from police custody. He explained that he got angry after police refused him bail but granted bail for others who committed the same offence. Magistrate Bonnie withdrew the file for sentence on the 27th May 2020.
