After completing a two day intensive seminar on parliamentary question time, staff of the Legislative Service Department, Sierra Leone Parliament, have been tasked to develop a brochure for MPs on question time. The training, which started on Monday 27th July 2020 at Hill Valley Hotel, was supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to capacitate legislative staff, who in turn will groom MPs on question time sessions in the Well. Since most of the current MPs are new, they lack adequate knowledge on the aforementioned topic, so developing the brochure would help them on what question time – one of the pertinent tools in parliamentary oversight – is all about.
According to the Director of Legislative Service, Karmoh K. Conteh, the brochure would not only help MPs, but also members of the public who are interested in parliamentary issues. The template for parliamentary question time was developed after an intense debate between department officials.
