There has been no case of coronavirus in Salone – Harold Thomas

The Communications Lead at the Directorate of Health Security and Emergency (DHSE) Harold Thomas has told Awoko that contrary to rumours making rounds in Sierra Leone, there is no case of coronavirus in the country. He said there is the death of a British citizen who died in Connaught hospital and they allegedly changed his nationality to Italian to tell the world that he is positive of the virus. Mr Thomas said this individual was working in Port Loko where he fell sick and was transferred to Connaught where he succumbed to death. He said the British High Commission has been notified and all necessary arrangement is being done for the corpse to be buried here in Sierra Leone or flown back to England. “Also there is fake news going around that the President is positive. I really don’t know why people seem happy for the country to get this virus. With all the efforts we are making to prevent the country from getting the virus, some people are just hoping for us to get a case.” He said they have doubled their effort to prevent the virus from entering the country and the President was in Gbalamuya on Sunday to check what was going on at the checkpoint and to continue to urge all Sierra Leoneans to follow all the instructions and be one another’s keeper. Mr Thomas said they will not relent as the virus is now in West Africa and they will do all in their power to prevent it from entering Sierra Leone. “All passengers coming from high risk countries will be checked and quarantined to make sure that nobody crosses the points of entry and infect other people. Stringent measures are now in all the major crossing points and we have increased personnel to improve the checks and quarantine.’ Mr Thomas averred that since the quarantine started, 97 people have been quarantined and 73 have already been set free after finishing their quarantine and all test negative. He said currently they have 24 under quarantine and for all the days they have been under quarantine they are still negative and he said they are hoping it will stay that way until they are set free.
