The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA), Francis Samura said as part of its commitment and vision to improve standards and capacitate cricket coaches across Africa, the Africa Cricket Association (ACA) is conducting an online Level 1 Cricket Coaching Course, starting on Monday 13th July 2020. He said 93 coaches across Africa will take part in the online course via Zoom, including 7 Sierra Leonean cricket coaches nominated by the SLCA.
The course will last for 7 days, after which an online exam will be conducted on 24th July 2020. Successful candidates will be certified by the Africa Cricket Association. Samura revealed that the training will continue today Tuesday 14th July with bowling presentations on: categories of bowling – pace/fast, swing/medium-pace and spin bowling; teaching fundamentals using simple biomechanical principles; different teaching methods – shaping and chaining (including reverse chaining) and relevant bowling drills; dangers and risks of bowling: safe actions and injury prevention; and relevant bowling drills.
Meanwhile, the SLCA media team said the 7 coaches from Sierra Leone, including 2 U-19 players as demanded by the ACA, are taking part in the training. They are: Sarah Johnson, Linda Bull, Amimata Kamara, Ann Marie Monica Kamara, Serry Billy Turay, George Edward Ngegba and John Bangura.
