Development Minister assailed by stakeholders in Pujehun

The Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Francis Kai-Kai, on Monday 3rd February 2020 visited community-based organizations, local NGOs, CSOs, youth council members, in Pujehun District at the District Council Hall. The visit was to solicit views and prepare stakeholders to work collaboratively. Acting Chair of Pujehun District Council, Mohamed Newo Mansaray, highlighted the numerous challenges ranging from the late allocation of devolved sector funds to the Council, late payment of salaries, the unapproved 2.5 million euros EU fund to the Council and the deteriorating conditions of development infrastructure, especially the road network, education, agriculture and health among many others. The Chair, National Civil Society Forum, Ibrahim Swaray, noted that the EU funded project undertaken by PACE and MAPCO, which cost 2 million Euros is geared towards social protection and agricultural activities in the district. He said these projects have problems ranging from incomplete projects, lack of coordination and collaboration at certain levels among many others. The Minister stressed the need to improve on coordination, collaboration and monitoring especially between the Council, CSO and NGO community for the improvement of development. Commenting on the poor rating of Pujehun District in the national development index, the Minister challenged the respective stakeholders to develop proper plans and programs in order to seek the attention of partners. He said that he would continue the dialogue with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) operating in the district.
