Finance Ministry dialogues with Importers Assoc.

The Ministry of Finance has last week engaged a cross section of the Executive of the Sierra Leone Importers Association to talk about constraints facing the local importers. Jacob Jusu Saffa, Finance Minister said that a discussion with the private sector people before the public sector agencies is what modern budgeting requires as they are about to start the Budget Policy Hearing next week. “If you are talking about increasing the role of the private sector, it is always nice that they are part of the budget process so that the policies do not negatively impact on the private sector, but at the same time we have a responsibility to preserve government revenue” he said. He agreed that there may be other challenges and obstacles faced by the private sector and said they are working towards addressing them within the budget process whilst looking at other challenges outside the budget process.
