Njala university academic staff resume strike action

Njala University Academic Staff Association (ASA) on Tuesday 1st October 2019 say they have resumed the strike action that was earlier suspended based on fact that the university authorities failed to abide by few agreement the association had with the university on 8th January 2019. The Association In a memo dated 30th September 2019, signed by the Association’s Secretary General, Abu Bakarr Sheriff stated that the association is resuming the strike on the basis that after series of meeting with Njala University Authorities “it is now crystal clear that the university authorities haven’t the financial obligations in addressing ASA’s welfare issues for which deadline were given.” The association further instructed its membership to fully resume the strike action by honouring the resolutions deadlines, and in addition not to perform any other function as prescribed in their condition of service until the outlined demands are fully addressed. “Meanwhile the door for dialogue is open to the chancellor of the university, His Excellency Retired Brigadier Dr. Julius Maada Bio since he is the only one who could find a lasting solution to the current issues engulfing Njala University,” the memo mentioned.
