President Bio apologizes on behalf of ACC for public ridicule

After a public outcry from the civil society organizations, social media, lawyers and the Human Rights Commission, President Julius Maada Bio, on Tuesday 10 September 2019, apologized on behalf of the Anti-Corruption Commission for publicly parading teachers in handcuffs on Monday 9th September 2019, at the Cotton Tree, who were accused of exam malpractice. The Regional Secretary, Western Region, Sierra Leone Teachers Union, Abdul Foday Kuyateh, said they completely abhor examination malpractice but the public ridicule of teachers at the Cotton Tree was completely unacceptable. Kuyateh said the teachers union will demand an apology from the Anti-Corruption Commission and compensation for those shamed at the Cotton Tree. “In the event that they fail to meet our demands we shall resort to court action by the ACC,” Kuyateh said.
