Sierra Leone bows out of 2022 FIFA World Cup African Qualifiers

Sierra Leone’s hopes to qualify to the group stages of the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualification were dashed on Sunday 8th September 2019 when they failed to score the last minute penalty kick that would have given the Leone Stars a two zero victory at home. During the match, Sierra Leone striker Kei Kamara’s 55th-minute strike broke the deadlock but was not enough as Lone Stars of Liberia progressed through a 3-2 aggregate victory into the group stages round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup African Qualifiers. Sierra Leone was ahead by a fine goal from their MLS striker, Kei Kamara, but Sierra Leone had lost the first-round by 3-1 in Monrovia. Another goal could have allowed them to progress on the away-goals rule.
