Alhaji Bangura was on Wednesday 2nd October, 2019, arraigned before Magistrate Abdul Sherriff of Court No. 3 on Pademba Road in Freetown. He was accused of sexually penetrating a 4-year-old girl on Saturday 13th October, 2019 at Adam Street. The police prosecutor ASP GVS Macauley alleged that Bangura sexually penetrated a child contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act No. 12 of 2012. The offence states that “A person who engages in an act of sexual penetration with a child commits an offence and is liable to a conviction of life imprisonment.” According to police records, the 19 year old accused is not related to the victim but a tenant to her grandmother. The mother of the victim told Family Support Unit (FSU) officers at the Eastern Police Station that she usually sends her daughter to her grandmother on weekend. She said on Tuesday 16th July 2019, while she was bathing her 4 year old daughter in the bathroom, the little girl could not open her legs properly.
