SLEWRC wants to restrict water bundle price to Le2,500

It was a verbal tug-of-war yesterday, at the Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission’s (SLEWRC) office, as members of the Commission and representatives of the Sierra Leone Pure Water, Packeting and Bottling Organization (SLPWPBO) argued over the recent price increase of bundled sachet water by water producing companies. SLEWRC Director General, Emmanuel Mannah, maintained that the Commission has the power to regulate rates and charges. Section 11 (1)a,b of the SLEWRC Act states: “subject to this Act, the Commission shall have power to set or otherwise determine rates for electricity and water services; and carry out regular reviews of rates and charges for regulated and unregulated services.” Some said this does not include drinking water but only water for homes and buildings. “We are here to protect not only the interest of the consumers but also the producers as well… to create a balance,” Mannah maintained. He said “The producers do not understand the Act because it is clearly stated that no one should increase the prices of water and electricity in Sierra Leone without our approval.”

Do agree that EDSA should increase Electricity Tariff ?
