Sierra Leone’s women’s beach volleyball team have qualified to next stage of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Zone Two qualification. The beach volleyball team humbled Cape Verde and Mali on day one, Thursday 9th January 2020. On Friday 10th January 2020, Sierra Leone lost to host Guinea 2-1 and won 2-0 against Zone 2 rivals Gambia to book a spot in the next round of qualifiers.
The Guinea female team got the better of Sierra Leone in a tight encounter to register their second win in the competition and first win against Sierra Leone in a little over four years. Sierra Leone started the brighter of the two countries as Team 1 of Sierra Leone (Maria and Francess) demolished Guinea Team 2 (Keita and Binta Bah) in two straight sets in what appeared to be a David vs Goliath match. But, Goliath held on to show why they are the top ranked team in the zone. The second match between the two countries featured Sierra Leone Team 2 (Bernadette and Fatmata Binta Bah) against Guinea Team 1. (Bagoura Mamidy and Camara). Team Sierra Leone won the first set comfortably by a whopping score line of 21-6. Guinea though responded in the second set fighting like it was the last match they had left on planet earth.
